Courting Disaster

Courting Disaster, my weekly comic about sex, love, and relationships updates every Friday. You'll laugh your pants off.

This week's question:

Q: I recently checked my wife’s cell phone and found the number of an old friend of hers. I called him and he seemed to have intimate knowledge of some of the problems in our marriage. The next day, I noticed his number on our caller ID box. When I questioned her about it we had a huge argument. Do you think she’s cheating on me? His number's up

Go on over and offer some advice.

TWIV: Star Sapphire

Friday, June 08, 2007 - 11:53 PM

The Week in Villainy:

Who's Up and Who's Thwarted

Star Sapphire:Star Sapphire's origins have been ret-conned to the following: The Star Sapphire stone is a creating of a race of Zamarons -- female equivalents to the Guardians of Oa.

It seems to be something that weilds emotion energy -- much like the Green Lanterns' rings use will-power energy and the Sinestro/Parrallax rings operate on fear.

In response to GL defeating Star Sapphire one again, the Zamarons re-create the Star Sapphire stone.

As a ring.

Now we have Lantern rings, Sinestro rings, Sapphire rings, and -- if the end of the issue is any clue -- more to come.

One can only wonder what emotion energy the other rings will harness. Joy? Anger? Apathy? Ennui? Schadenfreude?

And we get to look forward to increasingly convoluted explanations of how emotions have ties to colors in the visual spectrum.

It has a ring to it. But then again, it seems as if everything is going to, too, before long.

Luckily, the Sinestro Corps arc launches next month. And not a moment too soon.

TWIV: Brave and Bold #3

Friday, June 08, 2007 - 09:34 PM

The Week in Villainy

Who's Up and Who's Thwarted

Fatal Five:In the latest issue of The Brave and the Bold, the Fatal Five burst onto the scene, led by The Lord of Time, and squaring off against Batman and the highy inexperienced Blue Beetle.

The current line-up of this Legion-of-Superheroes villain team is: Mano, who vaporizes matter with his hand; Persuader, who weilds the Atomic Axe; Emerald Empress and her Mystic Eye of Ekron; and Tharok, a cyborg killing machine who controls the giant Validus.

It's a pretty formidible roster. Not only do they outnumber the heroes three-to-one, but they have more power by a significant degree. Easy rout, right?

Wrong. The two Brave-and-Bolders easily face down the six baddies in a struggle that stops only when Batman and Tharok are melded together as one.

And that didn't even happen intentially.

Mighty Avengers #3

Mighty Avengers #3

If you recall, in an earlier post about my pull list at Hall of Heroes in Cherry Hill, NJ, I stated the following:

And I couldn't care less about what's going on in The Mighty Avengers, but I gotta see that Frank Cho draftsmanship so badly that I'll put up with word balloons that repeat the exact same thing the preceeding thought balloon said.

Bendis' balloon folly is almost charming in its earnestness, actually. So, I can give that a pass. As long as it's conveyed in those stong Cho brushstrokes, I'm a happy reader.

Well, this panel from Mighty Avengers #3 sums up that feeling perfectly. The illustration is absolutely gorgeous. No one draws the femal figure as well as Cho.

And the composition of the image is just downright sublime.
