Courting Disaster: Oct. 17, 2008

Friday, October 17, 2008 - 12:05 AM

Courting Disaster, my weekly comic about sex, love, and relationships updates every Friday. You'll laugh your pants off.

This week's question...

A reader writes... I told my wife that when I die, I want to be cremated and have my ashes sprinkled at the Jersey Shore, where I spent every summer as a kid. She thinks we should be buried side-by-side in the cemetery at her church. I don't think we need to be physically next to each other in death, which she says is cruel and insensitive. Who's right? And how can we solve this problem?

Don't answer here... go on over to the CD site and offer some advice.

Unless you have already paid for the plots, coffins, and reserved the room at the mortuary, then I'd have to say that you're stuck.

However, if you recall those lovely words once spoken to you by the minister of your choice, "'Until Death do you part." Once you two, whichever one of you goes first, (G-d forbid) once the other is gone, you two are no longer married.

Case in point: My mother died in January 2006, the evening after the funeral, my father kept looking at the wedding band on his finger. I asked him, "What's the matter?" "I feel like I should take this off." he replied. I looked him in the eyes and said, "Is that what you really want to do?" To which he said "Yes." So I told him, "Then take it off!"

He removed it and got on with his life.

But back to you.

If those are your last wishes, and you have a legal document stating as such, then all I have to say to that is, Have fun on the Jersey Shore!

Hell, let's face it, we're not responsible for anything; including the things we say, do, or think. And if you sue us because you think we are? Well, we're not responsible for that either.
