"Five to Pull/One to Pass"

All-right, welcome to "Five to Pull/One to Pass". This is kind of a proof of concept, so it's going to be "One to Pull/One to Pass". I just wanted to see if I could pull this off in a video format. Lucky you, now you get to look at my face.
[pointing to Evil Inc banners in the background:] This really isn't a nod to my rampant egotism; I just don't want you to see how messy my studio actually is. So without further ado, let's go to "One to Pull/One to Pass", a proof of concept.
If I were to pull one comic this week, I think it would have to be 'Justice League: Generation Lost', all-right. I stand second to nobody in my love for the 'Justice League International', written by Keith Giffen. And this one is written -- they brought Keith Giffen over. Unfortunately, DeMatteis is not going to be illustrating the book, which is sad, to be true. But at least they brought Keith across. And it looks like it's got a pretty good hook to it. Let's check out the solicit here:

Oh, it's a biweekly event! So this is going to come out every two -- ? What is, is it bi-weekly is every two weeks? Or twice a week? God, it can't be twice a week, that'd be ridiculous. So every other week, it's going to come out.
Someone is targeting the old members of the defunct Justice League International. Now, surviving members Booster Gold, Captain Atom, Fire and Ice have to figure out what unseen mastermind is threatening to destroy the entire Super Hero community!
I'm hooked! Right there, I'm done. I'm in. Every two weeks, I'll show up. (Until it sucks.)
There are no gray areas here – it’s black and white and red with blood all over for this lost generation of Super Heroes as original JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL writer Keith Giffen is joined by superstar scribe Judd Winick for a new era in excitement!
I'm in! What more do I need to say? I can zoom over to DC Collector { www.DCcollector.com } and check out a preview here, and it starts right out with Maxwell Lord. So, again, he's kind of had an unfortunate death, keeping him on the sidelines in the last year or so in the DC Universe, but I do think he is an unsung super villain. And it's going to be interesting to see him back on the stage.
I'm going to see if I can actually pull this off; if you don't see visuals, it means that I wasn't able to figure it out.

Y'know, I'm all for vampires -- more than the next guy! (Except when they sparkle.) And, I gotta tell you, I love to see the vampires starting to make a comeback here because, I gotta tell you as a comics reader, I've been a little zombie'd out.

OK, constructive criticism: Plainer backdrop. Desdemona and Lightning Lady are a bit too distracting, especially since you've set yourself at boob level.
Also, Pull the camera down so we can see more of you, and the piece isn't hosted by "the Severed Head of Brad Guigar."
But it's off to a great start! Looking forward to more!

I had passed on the JL: Generation Lost but you have changed my mind. I just wish they had gotten Kevin Macguire for the art. I think he does the covers though. The inclusion of the preview was a nice touch - the voice helped. I enjoyed this video version immensely, but I have to agree about tilting the camera so you are more in frame. Can't wait for the next one.
I have always enjoyed your 5 to pull one to pass segment and have often picked up books based on your suggestions.
I think I need to see a few more before I have a verdict, but at the very least I can see this as a Video Supplement to your normal list.
Same comment as others, frame your head in the center a little more. But Personally I like your choice of backdrop. It makes it feel a little more professional.
I really enjoyed the part where you read the Comic book pages!

Torture numbers and they'll confess to anything.
Agreed. You look like someone who isn't tall enough to sit at the grownup table at Thanksgiving; lower the cam and show at least some of your body. Ditch the drawings in the back; if you want to push Evil, Inc, find a background that just says "Evil, Inc." and place it to one side. Finally, take a gander at national news talking heads. Head and upper part of the body to one side, picture of what they're talking about to the other--they do that for a reason, so steal their concept. Atom would.
As a lot of people have pointed out you need to frame your face better. At times your chin disappears out of frame. Zoom in a bit more so that your face occupies more than half of the vertical portion of the frame. It looks as though you're shooting with a webcam - consider using a camcorder instead as it gives a lot more flexibility in positioning. Even some still cameras give good video results.
This is a nice first step, Brad. Every time you debut a new feature, I want to ask if you've read Gary Vaynerchuk's book "Crush It," because it appears to me that you are doing exactly that: Crushing it.
Can't wait to see more!
Hate to be the lone negative, but I preferred the print version of five & one. My general view is that I would rather read and article than watch/listen to someone read it to me, especially if it's primarily just someone in frame reading from a teleprompter/script.
I'll keep reading the comic and hopefully the print five and one, but I'll probably pass on the vids.
I am, however, a little impressed with your skill at the motion-comic-esque reading/showing.
Personally, I think it was great (apart from previously mentioned technical considerations) and will definitely be tuning in if there is another episode!
I'm not a "comic book guy", more of a casual comics reader, but I've always enjoyed reading the "Five to Pull/One to Pass" segments. But the added value of live action Brad? Box office gold (so-to-speak)! I'll be looking forward to more installments!
And I have to mention that at several spots the video either buffered or I had to pause it, and each time I got a hilarious expression on Brad's face. I'm tempted to screencap them and use them as forum avatars or something. ;-)

I liked it, Brad. "Draw people, add fangs" -- heh, spot on.
Changing the backdrop -- LL & Desdemona are better looking than any photo backdrop.
You may want to shift your camera level a bit so that you're showing a "head & shoulders" view -- down to the third shirt button on a dress shirt. Your studio can't be as messy as my workshop and it's probably a lot more interesting.
